Comics 101 for 12/29/2011 Star Wars Galaxy 7 Artist Sketch Cards - Step by Step Here's a look at my technique process of creating my sketch card art for Topps' Star Wars Galaxy 7 Artist Sketch Cards from the blank card to the final illustration. Have a look below - Step 2 - I draw a border in ink for each card and lightly draw in the portraits of my favorite Sith characters. Step 3 - The portraits are filled with a 30% cool grey marker base tone while the backgrounds inside the borders are filled with 50% cool grey marker base tone for each. Step 4 - I use my cool grey markers (from 10% - 80% grey tones) to further render the portraits and add lighting and dimension to the faces. Step 5 - For the final step I tighten the drawings for the portraits with pencil and white Prismacolor pencil while using artist's graphic white ink for my brightest highlights. The entire technique process for my 25 hobby sketch cards took just over a month to complete. The back and front of each card is then hand signed, packaged up and shipped back to Topps for release of the product in stores.
