If you're going to Wizard World Chicago (or any other convention in the near future) and you're planning to show your portfolio around in hopes of getting some work, here are some last minute tips from my pal, Justin at World Famous Comics.
If you are traveling with friends, hopefully another professional, have them look over your portfolio and see if there are any pieces that you might want to pull at the last minute. Sometimes you fall in love with a piece of art that does not represent your current and best work. Have them help you identify and remove any of those pieces.
If you have new business cards, double check all your contact info. Make sure that your zip code, email address, URL or whatever is correct. If not, fix it with a pen but don't make a big deal out of it when you hand the card out.
Prepare for criticism and take it seriously. Remember, the portfolio reviewer is not there to cut you down. They are there to tell you want you need to improve to get a job with them.
Good luck and don't forget to enjoy the convention too!
I hope everyone is having a great summer so far, travel safely and I hope to see you there! Check back next week for another Comics 101 feature!
