Art tips and techniques, reviews and interviews from my studio. Archived here and at World Famous Comics. Comics 101 for 07/04/2002 Designing Star Wars Aliens! Episode Three: It's not wise to upset an art director. Once the sketches are sent to my art director and he has time review them, he contacts me with some new art notes and we realize corrections are needed to strenghten the artwork. I begin to revise some of my rough sketches and overall finalize the look and nature of these characters. The final pencil art is scanned and the revised drawings are emailed to my art director at Wizards who then approves the artwork and in turn sends it to Lucasfilm for final approval. After the drawings are approved, we agree upon payment and my deadline is given. Soon thereafter I get the greenlight to render these colorful characters. The following set of drawings are the pencil line art I completed as the next step of the approval process. Come back next week as we take a look at the final pen and ink line art before I begin the digital coloring process. -Joe Recent Columns:
